In place of our monthly NRHS Chapter meeting, we were invited to the home of one of our members to view & ride his live steam railroad. The railroad is a large oval on about 1 1/2 acres, with several bridges, along with a turntable & 3 stall engine house. There are 2 live steamers, 1 gasoline & 1 battery electric locos. Allan Nations, long time chapter member, was a gratious host, inviting us all to his railroad. We had about 10 members present for the open house. Another chapter member, David Price, who's also Alan's neighbor, has a nice 2-6-0 live steam locomotive & cars based on the railroad. Here's David giving me a ride behind his locomotive. Earlier, it was easily pulling 4 people at a time around the loop without even straining. Here's my son Alan, getting a driving lesson from Chapter President Tony Howe. This little switcher is powered by a 5.5 HP gasoline engine. More pictures & information to follow soon. Once again... A BIG "THANK YOU" to Alan Nations & David Price for a very fun filled afternoon. "ADDITION" The way I understand it, these trains are 2 1/2 inch = 1 foot gauge, operating on 7 1/2 inch gauge track. So basically narrow gauge trains on standard gauge track.
