The aim of this project, is to use the materials shown below
The raw materials
to produce a gantry crane something like in the sketch below
The raw materials displayed above are in the same order as the list on the sketch
Well here is a photo of the components laid out loosely in the assembly requirements
I will post pics as I go along, but please feel free to ask questions at anytime, I will do my best to answer them.
Here's a progress pic on the project. Shown here are the sub assemblies of the gantry. They consist of the 2 uprights, the cross beam, the hoist motor, the spreader bar and the 2 diagnlal staberliser bars
Still trying to make a suitable hook for the hoist
Here are a couple of pics of assembled gantry. It now needs to be painted and the rigging work done, but at the moment I'm attempting to make a hook for the hoist. So there should be some more pics by the end of the weekend. See you then.
Some more pics on the gantry. First lot is after the paint shop.
Shortly afterwards the painter man got very upset, because the rigging crew and the weathering crew, destroyed his beautiful paint job. He ranted and performed, but to no avail. His performing fell on deaf ears (mine).
I think I've lost something upstairs, because I was mad enough to attempt making this hook and sheave block from scratch. It consists of 5 parts and I put the HO scale figure there, so that you can get a better idea of the size of the hook. Why do we punish ourselves like this. I thought that model railroading was supposed to be "FUN" . OH well, guess we must pay for our sins somehow!!
Here are the final pics of the project. Yes this project is now complete.
That's it!!!
Cheers, Simon
