This is scratch building
Well, Glenn & Matthew, it looks like I'll have to kick start this thread for you. So here goes nothing!
The project displayed below, is of a grain elevator &A milling complex. It is a generic model that does not follow a specific prototype, but hopefully it will convey the overall impression of such structures.
The dimensions are as follows:-
Structure length = 48"
Structure height = 12"
Structure width = 9"
The footprint of the dioramas base is"-
Length = 72"
Width - 20"
There will be a total of 4 spurs serving the elevator, with a capacity of 24 x 54' covered hoppers.
I started this project about 20 months ago, but it sat on the back shelf for more than a year, as other projects occupied my time. I am now working on it more frequently, as well as building other projects, so hopefully I'll be making more frequent update reports on the project
I am building the elevator in modular form, so as to make maintenance of the diorama easier. There will be 3 main substructures, namely the short silo unit, the main elevator building and the long silo unit. Each of these will break down into as many substructures as needed. But enough blabbering from me, here are some pics of the project.
An overall shot of the elevator
The short silo unit & the main elevator & mill building
The short silo unit in it's 3 sub units
The short silo unit complete
An end view of the unit
A view from an HO scale persons perspective
The main building & loading/unloading shed
And now some preview pics of the loading/unloading area
And now for some fun pics
The official Night shot
A foggy night (must be in Chicago)
An animation movie shot
Well that's it for now
Cheers, Simon
